Ottawa, ON, June 18th, 2014 – International Datacasting Corporation (TSX: IDC), the global leader in digital content distribution, is pleased to announce the first successful test of a live 4K UHD broadcast via satellite of High Frame Rate (HFR) content to a digital cinema projection system.
The test transmission in high frame rate 4K Ultra-HD was broadcast via satellite courtesy of IDC’s partners Eutelsat and DSAT. This signal was down-linked by IDC’s proven satellite receiver platform, and the video stream was decoded by IDC’s 4K HEVC decoder.
“DSAT Cinema is pleased to continue its partnership with International Datacasting to take the next step in the evolution of cinematic live events to 4K UHD”, said Fabrice Testa, CEO of DSAT Cinema.
“Eutelsat, co-founder of DSAT Cinema with dcinex, and pioneer of 4k Ultra HD TV in Europe with demonstration channels on several satellites (Hot Bird, EUTELSAT 10A), and recent live retransmissions via its EUTELSAT 5 West A, is very pleased to note that the cinemas can now decode 4k Ultra HD signals, at High Frame Rate, thus offering to the spectators stunning images and higher immersion”, said Michel Chabrol, Director of Marketing Innovation and Digital Cinema at Eutelsat, and Board Director of DSAT Cinema.
“This latest achievement from IDC demonstrates the progress being made towards 4K HEVC distribution of live events”, said Doug Lowther, President and CEO of IDC. “IDC is pleased to support this groundbreaking development and the future distribution technology for live events everywhere”.
